Relais San Bruno
Montepulciano - Siena - Tuscany
Rural
Number of rooms: 8

The Relais San Bruno is one of those rare things: a Bed and Breakfast that thinks it’s a hotel in the heart of Tuscany’s rolling hills just a mile across fields and olive groves from the town of Montepulciano. It is clear the owners had a touch of genius (and more than a little luck) when they found the site for this beautiful place to stay. The fields, vines and stunning views add up to something that is more than the sum of the parts; quite simply pure relaxation and pleasure in true Tuscan style.

The San Bruno is the perfect antidote to impersonal, sterile lodgings. Everything comes with tons of personality and attention to detail; the swimming pool hidden by a hillock for extra privacy, the breakfast served until 11am in the Orangery so you can have a dip or quick walk before should you wish, big rooms with natural rustic furniture overlooking the wonderful gardens, Alberto the extremely personable manager who can never do enough to help. It is difficult to get the right balance between luxury and laid-back comfort but Alberto has managed just the right proportions: the San Bruno is somewhere you don’t need to worry about a thing, sit back and relax and enjoy those stunning views, a glass of the legendary Nobile di Montepulciano or Brunello di Montalcino.

8 rooms allow for a wonderfully quiet and personal atmosphere, those who are looking for luxury par excellence can opt for the Royal Suite in a restored wing of the villa with its large double bedroom, living room and balcony with views across to the Basilica of San Biagio and on to the village of Montepulciano itself. If you are looking for even more peace and quiet then consider Snow White’s cottage which is fully independent with a little kitchen, double bedroom and lounge. Perfect for a romantic weekend or indeed a bit longer to really indulge in the surroundings. A further six rooms all concentrate on relaxation and comfort. Larger than the standard rooms you may expect in Italy, these all have air conditioning and authentic rustic furniture and fabrics.

The San Bruno is a dearer option but the setting and the attention to detail are second to none and make this a very unique and wonderful place to stay. The feedback for this hotel is full of praise and one of the highest ratings of all our lodgings.

ll Activities
The Relais is a mile from the town of Montepulciano and can be reached along the country lanes that lead beyond the beautiful Basilica of San Biagio (mid 16th century), the masterpiece of Antonio da Sangallo the Elder.

Its position close to the vineyards of the esteemed Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano allow you to spend a very pleasant afternoon on one of the guided tours to the Cantine, a great way to get to know these excellent wines.

Bicycle tours of the surrounding countryside are also available and a nice idea for those who enjoy active exploration. For going a little bit further you may want to take the car, Florence (1.5 hours), Siena (1.5 hours), Lake Trasimeno and Cortona (both 40 mins) and Pienza (20 mins) are all within easy reach.

With the wonderful gardens and swimming pool, those views down into the valley and across to Montelpulciano you may decide, and with some reason, to laze around the Relais and soak up the very best of the Tuscan atmosphere.
