It’s not everyday that you get a swimming pool located right in the middle of the courtyard of a Riad in Marrakech, but then again the Noga is not your everyday Riad. Built up by Gabriela, her approach was to take 3 adjoining houses, strip everything down and start renovating from scratch. Extensive and hard work it is true but surely worth the result.

First of all, the extra space afforded has meant not only the aforesaid pool but also oodles of space such as the large patio which even boasts bougainvillea; orange trees and nesting birds (by the way don’t forget to check out the resident parrot, he can’t be missed, for he can be a bit vocal at times). In all, there are lots of little nooks and crannies where you can hide away from it all, peacefully adorned in creamy tones and pastels - bright and airy with nice bright reds and yellows. It is all so tranquil, located as it is at the end of a narrow lane in an area of the old walled city, that you may forget that you are only a ten minute walk away from the “Jama el Fnaa” Square. If you don’t believe it, just step up to the verdant roof terrace and take a look at the view, one which encompasses unbeatable background vistas of the Atlas Mountains.

Thus with typical Teutonic efficiency, Gabriela has successfully managed to bring together western level of comfort with eastern exotica. Rooms, though not necessarily as large as some of the public areas, are relaxing and well catered with an imaginative mix of traditional and modern Moroccan art. In short, a great place to discover for the first time the charms of Marrakech.
