It's as if the Tauana was born into nature. Its unique location, architecture and concept - which can only be described as simple yet utterly luxurious - make it a compelling place to stay.

The Tauana is located in what is, in effect, a private beach complete with coconut trees and bang in the middle of two National Parks: But even knowing this fact beforehand does not prepare you for the shock of staring out onto the turquoise blue sea – a picture postcard view if ever there was one. One we certainly wager will take your breath away.

Yet the inside is pretty wonderful too. The 9 Bungalows have a minimalist and simple style but all come with King Size beds, giant mosquito nets and sheets made of fine Egyptian cotton, plus many well crafted pieces made by Brazilian designers of the 60s and 70s.

The attention to the environment is evident everywhere from the structures themselves, which are made either from “Pau-a-pique” (a method of construction using earth) or Adobe (a special type of brick).There’s even an organic patch that offers guests the best quality fruit and vegetables. Indeed, the Tauana takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously with an advanced system or recycling waste.

Take a dip in the sea, read a book on the hammock and take in that view to die for. It will linger in the memory.

ll	Tips & Getting There

Tauana is located in Corumbau, 220km south of Porto Seguro (by road) in the Brazilian state of Bahia. It's a 3.5-hour drive from Porto Seguro Airport.

By Air:
Porto Seguro Airport (60km by air). There are a few direct charter flights from Portugal to Porto Seguro (with Abreu, Mundo Vip and TerraBrasil), but as yet no direct scheduled flights from the UK. However, Tam, Varig and Gol offer domestic links from Sao Paolo, Salvador (in Bahia) and Rio de Janeiro (Saturdays only).
Salvador da Bahia (750km). Direct flights from London with Air Europa, American Airlines and Thomas Cook Airlines.
Rio Antonio Carlos Jobim and São Paolo Guarulhos. International airlines that serve these airports from the UK include BA, Brazilian airline TAM and Iberia. Flight time is approximately 12 hours.
