Dario and Christiane (the owners of the Vietnamonamour) also have a restaurant – Vietnamese of course – on the ground floor and if you don’t want to stray too far this is the perfect answer, it has one of the best reputations for Oriental food in the city.
Of course, whilst you are here you really should make the effort of popping in to see da Vinci’s Last Supper. The mural is in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie which is easy to get to from Vietnamonamour – simply hop on Metro Line 2 in the direction of Abbiategrasso and jump out at the Cadorno stop. The church is just 300 metres from there. The church is closed on Mondays and you will need to reserve in advance, the number is + 39 02 89 42 11 46.
Via Monte Napoleone and surrounding streets is where it’s all going on from a fashion point of view. Just a few blocks north of the Cathedral or Duomo it is certainly an experience, one that will leave you amazed and quite possibly a few euros lighter.
Not everybody likes shopping, however, and don’t forget that Milan offers more than a few opportunities for eating and drinking in style. Now getting better known throughout the peninsula, the Aperativo alla Milanese, is a 7.30 – 9 pm tradition in the city. Italians eat late so a little something to eat around 8 goes down very well indeed and is an exciting way to try lots of different traditional and modern foods. The aperativi happen in most bars – you buy a drink for slightly more than the normal prices but then have access to a whole array of nibbles so can work you way through most of north Italy’s cuisine without having to spend a fortune. Wash it all down with a Negroni the ultimate Milanese pre-dinner drink.
If you arrive at Milano Malpenso airport, it is an easy hop on the Malpensa Express which arrives at Cadorno station. Cadorno is on the same Metro line as Vietnamonamour (use Piola station) making the connection very handy indeed.
If you arrive into Linate, there are frequent bus services into the main railway station (Stazione Centrale) which is also on the same line as the Bed and Breakfast – use Piola again.
You will also arrive at the Stazione Centrale if coming from Venice, Florence or Rome.
Piola Metro is just 200 metres from the front door of Vietnamonamour so assuming you are not absolutely laden with baggage it is a very easy walk into the circular Piazzale Piola, up Viale Gran Sasso and the first street on the right hand side is Via Alessandro Pestalozza, you’ve arrived!
