Tuscany certainly brings a number of evocative images to mind. Those rolling hills, views to die for, cultured ambience, history, not to mention fine art and cuisine. It can take many days of traveling to just to get started on the real Tuscany. On the other hand, you can simply stay at the Villa Campestri, which seems to be a microcosm of this blessed region.
This wonderful renaissance villa, with lovely rooms in the main building, annex and old dairy, is surrounded by Rolling Meadows, forests, vineyards and olive trees on the Florentine hills. It is that rare combination of tradition, beauty and nature that makes Tuscany so special. Just a simple swim here, for example, is singular what with the beauty of the Mugello valley spreading out before your eyes as you take a dip in the clear water.
Then of course there’s the restaurant. You haven’t lived until you’ve had a proper Italian meal on the terrace in Tuscany, so why not try the 18th century in-house restaurant. Nature falls on your plate here: mushrooms, figs, cherries, apples.... directly from the field to the table. The cooking, using farm olive oil, is particularly light and traditionally Tuscan style – and delicious. Culturally, the Campestri is top notch too. During March, April, October and November it organises walks and art tours as well as cookery lessons and tastings of olive oil. |

By Car:
From: North (Bologna, Milan...)
Take Autostrada (green sign) A1 towards Bologna - Firenze. After Bologna drive about 60 km take the Barberino di Mugello exit (before Florence).
At the first junction turn left towards Borgo S. (San) Lorenzo. You will pass on a lake and a dike. One km after the dike, you will pass the Cafaggiolo Castle on your right. After the Castle, there is a junction: remain on the right until you will find the roundabout: here you have to take the second on right signposted Faentina, Borgo S. Lorenzo. After the tunnel follow the signs to Via Faentina.
You will find another roundabout: keep the right and you will arrive to the cross with Firenze-Via Faentina (on the right) and Borgo San Lorenzo (on the left). Turn left, signposted Borgo S. Lorenzo, Vicchio.
Turn right at sign post for Sagginale, Vicchio.
Pass through Sagginale and after 2 km turn right signposted Cistio, Campestri, Arliano. Keep to the right as you go straight through Cistio and Lastricata.
Few hundreds meters later you will find the gate of the Villa in front of you.
From: South (Rome, Naples...)
Take the motorway A1 direction Nord (Bologna), the exit is Incisa Valdarno. From here take the main road nr 69 direction Rignano-Pontassieve and follow the road for about 15 Km till a fork where you will find indications to Rufina, here turn right and go straight on direction Rufina-Dicomano-Vicchio
Pass the village of Dicomano follow the indications for Vicchio. Keep always the main road-don't turn for "Viccho centro". Once in the ring road of Vicchio, turn left to a level-crossing direction Ponte a Vicchio-Campestri. After the bridge turn right, go on for about 2 Km and then turn to the second road on your left, where there are indications to Campestri-Cistio-Arliano. Go on for 3 Km keeping the right and, after the curves of Lastricata, you will find Campestri.
