| Originally built by descendants of an old English aristocratic family, romantic hotel Vivenda Miranda has been carefully extended over the last few years within a subtropical garden, to provide an extremely sumptuous setting. Architecture is in keeping with the Algarve tradition – whitewashed walls, red tiled roof and the distinctive chimneys. Given the gently terraced gardens with the two differently structured buildings, guests can enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean from the rooms or suites, all of which are decorated in their own distinctive manner. The well-kept garden offers relaxing spots with great vistas of the coast. This is also an excellent place for golfers. Guests can benefit from packages and courses, including the best green-fee reductions to some of the finest courses in Europe. There is also the in-house golf pro to help anyone from beginner to the handicapped player. Other sports, however, are available within the vicinity and include tennis, biking, sailing and riding nearby. This is certainly a place to combine the relaxing with the active. It is also nearby to the Lagos, one of the few remaining towns in the Algarve that has retained its Portuguese identity. A final word of note, double rooms come with shower only. |

Visit Burgau and Salema Villages, intensively developed holiday spots, though one still retains vestiges of its former fidhing village live. From Figueira village take a 20-30 min. walk to beautiful Figueira Beach. Often more or less deserted except for a few campers.
Further west near the Raposeira Village, visit Zavial Beach and Ingrina Beach. If visiting Vila do Bispo, a fairly scrappy little town whose kernel of old white houses centers on lovely seventeenth-century parish church, don't miss to stop by at Restaurant "Casa Correia".
Monuments in Lagos:
Ermida de São João Baptista - Built in the 15th/16th centuries and rebuilt in the 18th. Its main chapel is constructed on an octagonal floor plan.
Praça Infante D. Henrique - This building, which has a symmetrical façade, dates back to the 15th/16th centuries.
Igreja de Santo António - Church from the 17th/18th century in a baroque style. There is a
Regional museum housed in an annex to the Baroque Church of Santo António and has an archaeological collection from various periods, sacred art, including vestments, crucifixes and images (16th -18th century),
Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos - This Carmelite sanctuary was a hermitage dedicated to Saint Peter in Pulgão where a statues of Nossa Senhora das Dores was placed, perhaps in the eighteenth century.
Mercado de Escravos (Slave market) - The place where the first slaves brought back by ships from their journeys to Africa were sold (15th century). Four arcades at floor level define a patio. One of the walls bears the arms of the Marquis of Nisa (17th century). On one side, a window (once a door) from the 15th century.
Muralhas e Torreões - Walls and turrets of the Castle at Lagos. Still existing are the gates (Porta de Portugal and Porta do Postigo) and the remains of an old palace. In one of the sections of the walls is a Manueline window, from which, according to tradition, D. Sebastião attended an open-air celebration of Mass before setting sail for Alcácer Quibir. |

| From Lisbon (airport):The airport access road brings you to the “A2” in direction of the Algarve. Follow that road and take the “Vasco da Gama” Bridge. Continue on the motorway all the way to the Algarve, keeping on the “A2” until the end. (This part will take some 2 hours). Eventually turn on to the N125 highway (also known as Via do Infante) in direction of Portimão. This takes you over the suspension bridge and continue on the road until you reach Lagos. At the first roundabout take the 2nd exit direction “Centro” and at the 2nd roundabout take the 3rd exit. At the next roundabout drive straight across then you are on the main avenue (Avenida dos Descobrimentos - two lanes) with the marina on your left. Drive along the "avenida" through the centre of town. The road bears to the right and at the first traffic light turn left towards "Porto de Mós", drive over the small "roundabout" and continue towards "Porto de Mós" beach. Drive past "Motel Ancora" and "Camping Imulagos". Take the next right and the second left. 100 metres further on is the hotel entrance and Welcome!From Faro (airport):We would advise to ask at the airport how to get to "Via do Infante" highway in the direction of Albufeira; pass Albufeira and continue until the end of the highway in direction of Lagos (the last 40km is a main road N 125); in Lagos and at the first roundabout take the 2nd exit, follow the direction "Centro" and at the 2nd roundabout the third exit. At the next roundabout, drive straight across (2nd exit) and then you are on the main avenue (Avenida dos Descobrimentos - two lanes) with the marina on your left. Drive along the "avenida" through the centre of town. The road bears to the right and at the first traffic light turn left towards "Porto de Mós", drive over the small "roundabout" and continue towards "Porto de Mós" beach. Drive past "Motel Ancora" and "Camping Imulagos". Take the next right and the second left. 100 metres further on is the hotel entrance (follow the Vivenda Miranda signs) and Welcome! |
