A prize for the Pulitzer– the Pulitzer prize! Ok, that’s for books but this hotel also deserves some sort of award. All the right boxes are ticked for any discerning guest looking for a special stay in Barcelona that takes in modern design and decor.

Location: It is right by the Plaça Catalunya and five minutes from Passeig de Grácia (think Trafalgar Square in London or Times Square in New York and you get the drift). Design shops, museums and some of Gaudi’s famous buildings are easily reached from here.

Design: The building itself may be of historical interest but a luminous renovation has done wonders to the interior and a clever use of material has added an element of fun. The ground floor/lobby is enhanced by a reception desk that has been converted from Sicilian alter. There are also many multicoloured floral arrangements and modern paintings to add even more light and colour.

Style: Rooms are located throughout all the five floors of the Pulitzer and of course continue the modern trendsetting aspect of the public areas. Modern conveniences, such as WIFI are ubiquitous and though some rooms may be a bit on the small side for some, people they are never less than extremely comfortable and stylish.

Cuisine: The cuisine of the “Visit” Restaurant, is based on natural Mediterranean ingredients and delicious. This alone would be reason enough for a visit, so to speak. But its structure is one of the highlights of the hotel. It has a glass ceiling and glassed front wall, courtesy of the fact that it is a converted greenhouse in a previous life. It definitely adds another dimension to a meal here.

There may be cheaper hotels around, but like the city of Gaudi itself, the Hotel Pulitzer is truly sophisticated and cool.

Great Place but noisy

The Pulitzer hotel is a really stylish, well furnished hotel, it is situated just around the corner of Plaza Catalunya - a good starting point to explore Barcelona. The regular room, where we stayed for 3 nights has enough space and a nice, spacious bath room - what can be rarely found in big cities hotels. When arriving, the sink was blocked, we asked to take care of it, what has been done once only halfhearted, the front desk manager, was quite arrogant and did not believe we know how to handle with the sink...; (but there were also friendly staff memebers at the front desk when we were leaving). It did not work till we left - we would have expected the cleaning people to inform the house keeping at this price range of hotel. The guests are all ages (some student groups from the US, young business people etc.) but a lot of people middle aged or more: the reason is probably that this is not a low budget house at all. In all, we liked the hotel very much, but we do not understand the concept of the roof terrasse: there is access for everyone - a party spot of the city, looks like a beach club and always overcrowded. When it rains, everybody goes down to the hotel bar - and it is so noisy in the middle of the night, that you cannot sleep anymore - all rooms go to the patio, where the hotel bar is. We do not understand, why only hotel guests (and their guests) have access to the roof top and this place seems to be creatd for youngsters, who like to party. Does not fit to the style, the price level of the hotel. Conclusion: a very stylish hotel, but you need to handle with the noise, meeting drunken people in the floors and in front of the hotel. The staff: service needs to be improved: friendliness of front staff, service at hotel bar is not very attentive, service coud be improved in all.
