Convento São Saturnino - a romantic place to stay close to Cascais, Sintra and Lisbon. Located 25 km from Lisbon in the heart of the 5800-acre ocean side nature reserve within one of Portugal's most treasured regions there is a truly secret place - the Convento São Saturnino – and odds on you will be enchanted by it.
Weathered beams, attic roofs, canopied beds, antique family furniture and paintings make for an extremely attractive ambience where, warmth and refinement are in endless supply. The large and crystal clear pool, built in the monastery’s ancient water tank is an open invitation to bask in the sun (weather permitting), the only distraction being the bubbling of a mountain stream cascading towards the ocean below.
At the end of the day or if the sea wind rises you may take refuge in the pavilion by the open fire and contemplate the exceptional view below. The excellent buffet breakfast can be served in the old kitchen or in the transformed chapel. Alternately it may also be taken outside in the garden or on the terrace towards the ocean. Many typical restaurants are dotted among the surrounding hills, excellent beaches and village nearby. As someone who stayed there said “Even the cats are wonderful”.
PLEASE NOTE: Given the layout of the Convento São Saturnino, it is not suitable for small children.
This was an amazing place. We had a beautiful view from our private patio and bedroom of the sea and surrounding bush ( no houses). The room was very spacious. The dining area was great and had a huge breakfast.
It was really like living back in the last few centuries.
It was very relaxing and quiet!! The staff were helpful and we thank them very much for upgrading us, it was a real treat!! ????
Full of magic

Nothing is average about this place... so, if that’s what you’re looking for, this is not for you. This place is for the imaginative, the seekers, wanderers and storytellers. And those in search of the pure beauty and peace of nature. The convent lies tucked away in a valley bursting with life; green, flowers, fruit, animals. It has a stunning view looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. The room we stayed in was extremely cozy, the bathroom very clean and furniture personal and tasteful. There is a tranquility and kindness there which made us relax straight away. The garden surrounding the convent is delightful and has a magic to it; herbs, water, frogs, goats flowers, beautiful little places to sit and soak it all up. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful.
My husband and I enjoyed an active holiday, but as we left we regretted not staying at the convent more. We tried to book a couple of extra nights but unfortunately it was fully booked. So, we will be back for sure!

This was by far the most magical and enchanting gem to have had the privilege to stay in. The beautiful gardens, the water the ambience all were wonderful. The Convento itself was inspiring and created a haven of peace and relaxation. The pool area was also a place to relax and take in the beautiful nature surrounding the area. Breakfast and Dinner were superb. We stayed in a room with sea views it was beautiful looking down the valley towards the sea. I cannot recommend this magical place enough! Thank you for providing us with such fantastic memories.

We were 6 nights at the Convento and that was an excellent stay. Not only is the setting extraordinary (secluded location, fantastic view, peaceful atmosphere, plus very esthetic building, garden and inside decoration), but the genuine hospitality of the owners and entire team makes the place a real heaven.

From the moment we arrived we realized it would be an amazing stay. The grounds are nestled in a narrow valley affording dramatic views of the ocean from our room, Unique and eclectic furnishings and architecture make this a once in a lifetime stay. The Convento Sao Santurnino was a real treat. The hotel was very comfortable and the breakfast really lovely. And it certainly was a secret place ! which we loved.

When you get to the convent you feel like you reached the most secluded and protected place in the area while you're actually quite close to Azoia and a lot of beach and site seeing options. The convent is gorgeous, full of mystery. A bit more historical input about the place would be even better.

Me and my wife were not expecting this at all! But glad we experienced this surreal site. We had a pleasant stay. Sharon and Her colleague were sweet. It is such a private place, excellent for newly weds (honey moon) or partners really just trying to find a peaceful place to disconnect from the society. Being that we are from NYC, we really needed this! Thank you so much!!!

The location of the hotel is very unique, beautiful and quiet. The view from our room and the swimming pool was amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately some parts of the garden were messy and there was some garbage lying around. Especially around the parking lot. When you take breakfast outside the scruffy dogs are circling around all the time.

Aconselho a experiencia.

Eine wirklich tolle Hotelanlage. Schöne Lage, tolle Natur. Atemberaubende Sicht auf den Atlantik. Sehr gastfreundliches Personal.
