This delightful 15th century Episcopal residence is in many ways the prototype of the Galician Pazo (a lodging where the kings spent at least one night). Constructed in stone, additions were built up to the 18th century. The current owners, have taken a long time in restoring it to its former glory but the effect is impressive and worth it – a beautiful haven of peace and tranquillity. Only the noblest of materials, such as walnut, chestnut, marble and porcelain were used in the restoration, the result of which is a continuation of the old world charm. The result has certainly been worth it.
The rooms are splendid and ample as well as being decorated with numerous fine antiques. Indeed this is an excellent place for lovers of antique pieces. But there’s more. Here the combination of stone and wood complement each other perfectly. Outside, the grounds are beautiful and a dip in the swimming pool or a walk around the surroundings are an excellent way to relax and pass away the hours. Those wanting to venture a little bit further out can visit Ourense or the Galician coast nearby. Bentraces is, in fact, strategically located on the “Route of the Monasteries”.
Breakfast can be arranged for a daily fee of 9.50 euro.
Surrounded by a beautiful garden Paza de Bentraces features all the charm and patina of centuries of loving owners. Our room and en-suite were spacious and very comfortable. Breafast was a delightful treat. Our hosts were very courteous and helpful.

We stayed four nights in this beautiful and warmly hospitable 15th century Spanish manor and felt sorry for not being able to fully express our appreciation to the Spanish speaking host and adorable staff.

We had a lovely time there it is a beautiful house and gardens and had very good weather. The pool is really fabulous 20m and salt water so that is a real bonus. Owners really lovely and very helpful although of course we struggled to communicate not that that worried us at all. Good local restaurant five minutes away as it has no restaurant. It might have been nice if they had had a little more information on places of interest.
