In the very centre of Kastelruth (Castelrotto), Schulmeisterhof can look back at more than eight hundred years of history. This former farmhouse, now a listed historic building, opens its doors to those who wish to experience South Tyrol up close, without having to give up the welcoming comfort that this charming accommodation provides.

The top floor beneath the sloping roof has been converted into two holiday apartments with contemporary décor, preserving the original character of the building and combining it intelligently with a modern, functional layout.

The “Zwoa” apartment, 48 m² in size, offers two bedrooms, ideal for families, a cosy living room, a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely view of the church tower of Kastelruth.

The “Oans” apartment, with its 40 m², feels like a snug attic nest for 2 to 4 people, bathed in the morning sun, with a double bedroom, a living room with sofa bed and a fully equipped kitchen-diner.

From here, everything is within easy reach: supermarkets, restaurants and the bus stop, and the Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi is easily accessible for your excursions into the Dolomites.

In the 13th century, the servants of knights lived here, and in the 17th century a schoolmaster named Christian Prugger, who gave the farm its name. During the “Option” of 1939, a secret meeting was held here, which led to the farm being expropriated by the Fascist regime. Years later, grandparents Rosa and Josef Fill were able to buy it, and since then Schulmeisterhof has been part of the family’s story.

Although it is located in the village, Schulmeisterhof is still a working farm. In the morning you can go down to the barn to collect your own eggs, pour yourself a glass of freshly milked milk or spread homemade strawberry jam on a slice of freshly baked bread. Brown Swiss cows graze in the fields and the laying hens, together with the crowing cockerel, provide your wake-up call. Potatoes from the farm, natural yoghurt, homemade syrups, dried fruit and seasonal vegetables are all part of everyday life here. With a bit of luck, you might witness the birth of a calf or lend a hand with the farm work.

In summer and autumn, the paths of the Seiser Alm are perfect for walking or cycling through fragrant meadows and forests and, why not, for a spot of climbing. In winter, the landscape is covered in snow and there is no shortage of things to do either: downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoe walks and fun toboggan runs for all the family. The Dolomites are just a stone’s throw away.

The village of Kastelruth has an almost traffic-free centre with pretty painted houses, a parish church with an impressively tall bell tower, little shops, cafés and restaurants serving local cuisine. And at the end of the day, strolling through its streets is a real pleasure.
