Two initial things struck us positively about the Hotel Rural Son Granot:
Firstly, for a Georgian House built in 1712, it is actually a pretty funky and an up to date sort of place. In fact, it is a historic hotel, boutique hotel, eco-resort and countryside accommodation all in one. But whatever you call it or think it is, people generally agree that it provides a superb experience.
The second thing is the sheer size of the surrounding area at its disposal. The botanical garden alone is over 10,000 square metres, whilst the total estate measures some 75,000 square metres in all. Space is definitely something that you will not be missing.
We also want you to know that Son Granot is the first place in whole Spain to receive the first rays of the morning sun, as it is located on the most eastern point of the most eastern island of the country – Minorca, one of Europe's most beautiful and peaceful islands, where you can still find virgin beaches inhabited only by both the birds and a wide variety of sea life.
The Son Granot offers eight bedrooms, of which five have boasting sea views, and three are overlooking the swimming pool, the garden and the rest of the grounds. Two of these, look out from the distinguished front façade of the building and have a terrace with magnificent views over the entrance of the natural Port of Mahon and the fort of La Mola.
Son Granot also has two suites with private sitting rooms and terrace, offering guests further space and privacy. These, however, are located in an outbuilding done up in the Minorcan style and surrounded by gardens. As befits of such an idiosyncratic accommodation, each room is furnished in colonial type furniture but in a unique way.
Of course, the 21st century is well represented with air conditioning, satellite TV, stereo system, etc. It just happens to be well integrated with the 18th century sensibilities of the place.
