When looking for words that describe Bavaria an endless list comes to mind, that all together describe this beautiful and diverse region of Germany. Just think about Munich, Allgäu, Neuschwanstein castle, Schweinebraten (roast pork), potato dumplings, beer, wine from Frankonia, Oktoberfest (Wies’n, which literally means meadow), Chiemsee, Danube, Nürnberg Christmas market, Alps.
The largest of the German federal states is also full of cultural, natural and gastronomic surprises. To the south Bavaria is bordered by the Alps, to the east by the Upper Bavarian mountains and the Swabian Alb in the west. Flanked by the majestic giants some 300 lakes are scattered throughout the gentle Alpine foothills.

Just think about those “gemütliche Restaurants", the fresh Weißwürste, bread dumplings (Semmelknödel), onion cake and fish on the stick (Steckerlfisch). Deserts such as sweet dumplings (Germknödel) and Zwetschgendatschi, a flat plum cake will make you ask for more.
Culturally it is not only the capital Munich that will catch your attention. A wealth of cultural heritage sites offer top-class concerts, musical festivals, literature events and exhibitions.
