The Masseria Cianció is located at the most Eastern tip of Sicily, 10 kilometres from Modica, 5 km to Pozzallo town and from its port it is possible to visit Malta Isle. It is immersed in the countryside between carob trees, olive trees, fig trees and drystone walls. Thanks to its location, the farm is an excellent starting point for day trips to the towns of the “Val di Noto”, like Modica, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli - the most beautiful examples of Sicilian Baroque times and recognized by UNESCO World Heritage Site. For archaeology lovers, the only a few minutes away Cava Ispica gorge, which contains Sicula Ages testimonies, Greek period, Roman period, Paleo-Christian Age and Byzantine art, might be interesting. If you prefer the sea, you can choose between the beautiful beaches and nearby Iblea Coast until Vendicari Natural Oasis and Marzamemi, a typical fishing village.
The Masseria Cianció is a typical Sicilian "farm" composed of the farmers house, the stable and the storage rooms for carobs, wheat and straw. Today, they are converted into comfortable guest rooms, which overlook the courtyard. The structure was honoured in 3 Ears, equivalent to a 4 Stars hotels.
The guest rooms are eight double rooms with the possibility of an additional bed, one double room with kitchen, two apartments for four people with kitchen and three rooms for four people. Almost all the accomodations have a lovely private garden. Each room has been personalized and treated in details thanks to the professionalism of the owner, an interior designer. The result is an elegant and refined stay in complete harmony with the atmosphere of the Iblea countryside. All the accommodations are equipped with own bathrooms with shower, hair dryer, minibar and air conditioning. The ancient furniture dates back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and matches perfectly with the restored building.
The pool (5x14metres) lies between carob trees, using typical materials of the area: the modicana stone. The fine garden furniture consists of beds, deck chairs, tables and chairs. The farm has a vast field of land that allows for long walks between carob trees, olive trees, fruit trees and colours and smells of the authentic Sicily.
Breakfast is treated in the smallest details, taking care of the quality and authenticity. The ingredients are all fresh and local. Cakes, jams and other dessert are all home-cooked at the farm. The breakfast buffet includes milk, coffee, different blends of tea, fruit juices, home-made bread, biscuits, butter, different kinds of cheese - f.e. the famous Ragusan cheese - and fruits.

This is a nice location for exploring the “Ragusa Loop” towns although a bit far to drive back and forth to Modica/Scicli/Ragusa for dinner (we tried the closer beach town of Pozzallo one night and ate at the Masseria the second). Our room was comfortable and large, and although the airco wasn’t working during our stay, we were fine. The pool is large and clean, and the owners and staff friendly and welcoming. We were disappointed that upon arrival Saturday the staff explained how to plan a driving itinerary to the 3 main baroque towns, yet failed to mention that everything in these towns is closed on Sundays (as is the Masseria’s kitchen for lunch and dinner). Modica was a ghost town. As we had only 1,5 days there, the Sunday “all is closed” information would’ve been extremely helpful to know. The breakfast was simple and enjoyable—a buffet would’ve been much more efficient than waiting for table service. The staff seemed overwhelmed at breakfast. Overall, I recommend this “secret place” for a longer stay and as a base to explore the local area. I would return happily, but not on a Sunday.
