The Hotel Gutkowski may have a northern European name but its sensibilities are pure southern Italian. Situated on the eastern seaboard of the island of Ortigia - in the historic centre of Siracusa - this charming accommodation overlooks the sea and is made up of 2 old buildings, which originally housed the local fishermen and craftsmen.
One of the things we love about the Hotel Gutkowski is that it has been restored in a contemporary style, yet remains respectful of the Sicilian tradition. It boasts natural colours in gentle hues, an intimate interior and a friendly atmosphere typical of this hospitable island.
Individuality is also the order of the day as every room is slightly different to each other and as a rule decorated in accordance with its position in the building, Some of the rooms, for example, face the sea, others overlook the rooftops or face a typical old street. This all impacts on the furnishings.
All rooms, however, include both traditional Sicilian furniture mixed with modern pieces, some of which have been specifically designed for the hotel.
On the ground floor there are a sitting room area with a fireplace, a small meeting room, the reception and the breakfast room. On the top there are two terraces overlooking the sea. Breakfast is a real treat: there are organic products, local food and seasonal fruit; the breakfast room is large and the atmosphere is relaxing. Rooms Basic: Comfortable rooms with plain and functional furniture. All double rooms can be used as singles as well. Basic rooms Basic rooms are very quiet, with balconies or windows on the inner courts of the buildings or on the small alleys of Ortigia. Equipped with en suite bathroom and all the comforts of hotel, it is an ideal room for a quick stay or a work trip. Classic: Bright and breezy rooms, and can be used as singles or doubles. Furniture is different in each room,. En suite bathrooms are comfortable and equipped with shower or tub. Balconies overlooking the sea or town. Plus: Can also be used as triple rooms. Decorated with great attention to detail and great for either summer or winter.
The perfect ten. La selección de Secret Places nunca defrauda. ;-)

Very happy with our stay at Hotel Gutkowski and would stay there again. Had a great sea view and the dining arrangements and bar were just fine. Food lovely and plenty of it, especially at breakfast, and staff polite and very helpful. Couldn’t ask for more.

We enjoyed the hotel very much. Having a balcony on the Mediterranean was a dream, hearing the Mare Nostrum. ?We could walk everywhere, the market, the little street, the Jewish quarters, the Castello, the other side to see the sunset. Fish and seafood was great.
The Air Conditioning really did not cool very much, but took the heat away somehow.
The room was lovely, but very small, only room for 1 chair.
We also stayed at Casa Talia in Monica. That is an extraordinary place, one of the most enjoyable places I have ever stayed in the world. Marco has created a beautiful and charming and relaxing place to stay in Italy!

My wife and I had pre researched this hotel and pre booked a sea view room
Simple and functional room beautiful view in annexe block
Sort of a thinking persons hostel but well managed and very good breakfasts
The plusses- very welcoming and lovely staff- I shared food ideas in the first hour and sorted restaurants for the week just like that
Had very good conversation on Bolognese cooking- the lady concerned will remember!
The D Gut restaurant - owned and run separately will be excellent when fully fledged with modem innovative Sicilian dishes
Location is excellent
Parking a bit of a bind but we got round that
Had a bit of a problem with air con in the room but Ortgia is very very beautiful
Thanks to all x

I stayed 3 days at the Hotel Gutkowski last August and it was a superb stay and experience. The service was amazing and the whole crew treated us like kings. The staff were wonderful, extremelly professional and helpful, we just couldn't expect for a better deal and treatment. The hotel's central location and the beautiful design and aesthetic were 2 of the most significant pros of the hotel. Moreover the hotal has a beautiful terrace with a stunning sea view were they serve free granitas every evening and it is the ideal place to relax and read your book. I absolutely loved the Hotel and I totally recommend it to all the potential tourists of Siracuse.
