    Historic Quarters

This small charming guest house may be right in heart of the old historic quarter of Cascais, a part of Portugal's very own Riviera, but it still retains an air of tranquillity mixed with no small amount of sophistication. In fact, it is a real oasis of greenery, over 3000 square meters of perfectly manicured gardens, waterfalls and lakes.

All fifteen rooms and suites are named and decorated with a common theme – the Portuguese discoveries of the 16thcentury which brought the country so much wealth on the back of the spice trade. Hence names such Timor, Goa, Mozambique, Macau and even Cinnamon, Pepper and Curry. The theme may be common but each room is individually styled and decorated with more than a dash of simplicity and grace that all together provide a homely feel.

Though located in a quiet and tranquil residential quarter, Cascais' main attractions are all within walking distance - Museums, the Marina, Public Gardens and, of course, beaches. That's just Cascais. One can't forget stunning Sintra, sophisticated Estoril and the big daddy of them all, city wise, Lisbon which is only some twenty kilometers away.

Note: No smoking in covered areas.

We totally loved the stay in this oasis in the Cascais as it is the perfect place to relax and calm down. Feels like a small jungle in the middle of the city-very private and still in walking distance to the restaurants!

My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights at casa vela guest house recently. The place was fabulous! From the decor, ambiance, gardens to the bedrooms there was no lack of attention to detail. It is set in the beautiful coastal town of Cascais that offered us more than we could have hoped in the forms of beauty, coast lines, architecture and restaurants. The staff at casa vela were extremely pleasant and went out of their way to accommodate our needs. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer - we plan to be back!

Discovering Casa Vela in Cascais was one of the wonderful surprises on our 10 day adventure in Portugal. The town if beautiful - affluent, oceanside, not so touristy, and the guest house was exquisite, from the grounds to the decor and location. Wrapping it all was the gracious hospitality of Jean Paul and his staff - they couldn't have been more helpful or accomodating. If you're looking for a convenient base to explore both the heart of Lisbon and Sintra, this is it.

We appreciated we were upgraded to a larger room in the new wing, with balcony and garden view. The gardens are beautiful and 2 pools that would be great for cooling off in the city in the summer. It is in a residential area that is a quiet retreat after being in town. There was some issue at check in and they were going to charge more than was quoted and were not very friendly. Once that was rectified by the manager they were more helpful. Breakfast is included in the living room which is comfortable and a good place to relax.
Beautiful new design guest house - very welcoming and comfor

We have just returned from a very successful first stay in Portugal, partly at Casa Vela in Cascais, which we chose because of the coastal location and easy access to Lisbon and Sintra. We found that Casa Vela is a new small hotel in a quiet mainly residential part of Cascais. It is only a ten minute walk to the marina, town centre and promenade. The Paula Rego gallery is nearby and a lovely park. The hotel and gardens are beautifully designed - a combination of newly renovated rooms in the older house and in a brand new, modern extension. The garden is shady and peaceful, including a lovely poolside and loungers for reading and relaxing. There’s so much to describe and appreciate in the house, I’d recommend looking at the website photos to get an idea of the variety of rooms, seating areas, terrace, gardens etc. Management and staff were very welcoming and thoughtful, particularly Joao Paulo - recommending trips out, restaurants, car hire etc. We stayed for five nights and could easily have made it longer. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others, and to return ourselves.
