Explore the World Heritage Site of Sintra by staying in the historical Lawrences Hotel. Dating back to 1764, the Hotel Lawrences is the oldest hotel in the Iberian Peninsula and the second oldest in the world, so it is packed with rich history; famous writers and poets such as Lord Byron, and William Beckford, have all stayed at the hotel. Following a certain period of abandonment, the current owners, Jan and Coreen Bos, acquired the Sintra property in complete ruins and managed to renew it to its former glorious state.
Over the years the couple has been able to buy a number of the building’s original pieces and the interior decoration was based on original photographs undertaken by the coowners herself, Coreen Bos. In fact, some of the pieces found at Lawrences Hotel are exact copies of the hotel’s original tables and chairs. The end result is now a beautiful five-star hotel in the heart of Sintra with 16 uniquely decorated rooms (5 of them suites) that manages to create a unique home away from home feeling, as the owners like to call it.

Absolutely lovely hotel, in a great location in Sintra. The staff are extremely helpful and the Portuguese tarts at breakfast are to die for!
