Bremen may not come to your mind first when you think of a holiday in Northern Germany, but we guarantee it: Germany's smallest state has many wonderful places and a lot of charm.

In addition to Berlin and Hamburg, Bremen is also a city state consisting of the two major cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven.

Old buildings, an enchanting market square with town hall and winding alleys await you in Bremen. You also have the chance to immerse yourself in the gastronomic diversity and to browse through the many small shops in the alleys and find unique shopping treasures. The best way to explore the city is by bicycle: cycle through the city and discover Bremen's restaurants and cafés, where you can take a break with a piece of cake or gingerbread.

In the evening, the pubs and bars open their doors and look forward to customers ordering a cool Becks. If you have enjoyed beer, we recommend a tour of the Beck Brewery, founded in 1873. Several times a day a tour is offered to give you an insight into the centuries-old tradition of the art of brewing on the Weser.

Gastronomy in Bremen

We want to sweeten our lives again and again, so it is always a must for us to have a big piece of cake with our afternoon coffee. When we arrived in Bremen, we exchanged the cake for a Bremen coffee bread and were thrilled. The bread consists only of white bread, butter, sugar and Zimt. But despite the very easy production it is indescribably delicious.

Beside the coffee bread we encountered also the Klaben of Bremen, which are sold at the winter time. They remind a little of the typical Christstollen, since they contain raisins likewise. They have a very aromatic taste and are seasoned with cardamom - ideal for the cold days.

Christmas market in Bremen

The city of Bremen is particularly beautiful in the winter season: the Christmas market is a real highlight of the city and is considered one of the most beautiful and largest markets in Germany. Every year, the Christmas market attracts around 1.5 million visitors, who stroll from stand to stand between Christmas trees and a huge carousel. Delicacies, mulled wine but also jewellery and wooden toys can be bought from the 200 or so stands.
