Cumbria and the Lake District

Cumbria is one of the most picturesque regions in the UK, with its rural landscape, serene lakes and mountainous valleys. The famous Lake District, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just one of the many beautiful natural sites to be found in Cumbria. The county is also home to the Eden Valley, North Pennines, Furness Peninsula, and part of the Yorkshire Dales. If you’re looking for somewhere special to stay then we would recommend a traditional cottage or family run Bed and Breakfast to make the most of the exceptional countryside.

Country Cottages, B&B‘s and Holiday Homes

Cumbria offers a range of beautiful places to stay, whether that be in a quaint country cottage, family run B&B, lodge on the edge of a lake, or hotel on the coast. If you’re looking for natural beauty then you’ll be hard pushed to find anything that disappoints here at Secretplaces. We are doing our best to keep finding the best places to stay in the most beautiful parts of the world and Cumbria is definitely one of them.

What to see and do

Apart from the obvious hikes, coastal walks, and fishing trips you can take through the scenic lakes and Cumbrian coast, there are countless activities to keep everyone entertained. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing countryside getaway, an action packed family adventure, or a romantic rendezvous on the water, you’ll never get bored. Visit the historical sites, such as manor houses, gardens, and Hadrian’s Wall, or visit the magical World of Beatrix Potter, and travel to them all by steam train! Or immerse yourselves in nature by rock climbing, embarking on a tree top adventure, or learning the art of bush craft. Keep little ones happy and learning with the numerous aquariums and wildlife parks you’ll find between the lakes.
