Sometimes you just can't escape fate, other times you take matters into your own hands and create your own, and in the process something magical comes out of it. Here, when we say magical, we don't mean highbrow and sophisticated but something at one with nature.

This is the case with the casaDoria [SlowLife Hotel] & Restaurant. Valeria and Jacopo, an Italian couple, were fed up with the rat race, had an “insane” love of the sea, and wanted to live life in the slow lane, as it were.

And so after a long search for that special place that met their requirements, they found this little gem by the water's edge. A place that retains its genuine soul and where the “sea and nature are masters”. A place to enjoy an escape from the daily routine of modern life.

Think about it, if a couple from Italy, a country with so many gems and all round beauty of its own, believe the casaDoria [SlowLife Hotel] & Restaurant is special enough to make it their home, then it must be really something.

Still, don't expect luxury. To be sure, casaDoria [SlowLife Hotel] & Restaurant is not simply a bed & breakfast, but neither is it a hotel. It is a place to escape by the sea and share the beautiful surroundings with like minded people.

Rooms are decorated to extremely comfortable standards and include air conditioning, private bathroom with solar powered hot water. But decoration is kept deliberately simple and no frills so as not to take away from the raison d'etre of the place - a quiet and easy life taking things slowly by the sea.

Of course, this means that if what you are looking for is city life activity, then the CasaDoria is not for you. The nearest place with over 100 people is some 40 minutes way by winding mountain road. The nearest cash point machine is around 30 minutes away and the casaDoria [SlowLife Hotel] & Restaurant does not accept credit cards.

But in our opinion, sometimes less is more and this particular little gem is a great example of this. It's official title says it all.

A must-do in Crete for people who seek peace, quiet, excellent food (Italian with a mix of Greek), great hospitality but privacy as if you were at home.

The seaview from their terrace is Amazing. Rates are affordable...what does one need more for a holiday???????
