Villa Zoe

Sometimes less is more, sometimes simplicity is fresh and inspiring. But all the elements have to be in the right place — and they certainly are in the Villa Zoe.
Firstly, location: this seaside property is situated just outside Koutouloufari, a small Greek village, 2 km from the sea with views to die for. Add in a bougainvillea clad garden, plus a myriad of open spaces and you already have the raw materials for a special stay.
Secondly, the hosts: Daniela and Martin are a charming and urbane German couple with no end of sophisticated good taste. They fell in love with Greece and its slower way of life, and made the Villa Zoe their passion project by transforming two derelict whitewashed Cyclades cottages into a simply beautiful place to stay. Combining a respect for the local architecture and culture, Daniela and Martin added their own brand of bohemian chic to the five rooms and common areas with pieces collected from their travels around the world.
This brings us to the third point: style. Decoration throughout the Villa Zoé is bohemian and certainly eclectic — a byproduct of the hosts extensive travels and collection of pieces. So expect china from Morocco, shells from the South China Sea or lamps from Myanmar and other eye-catching items. Even the names of the five rooms are exotic - Carpe Diem, Arrivato, Jacques, Boho and, last but not least, Buttermilk Kiss. They may all have widely differing names and characters but each is authentically ethnic and furnished with accessories that originate from all over the world. Oh, and just to make sure you fully enjoy the peace of it all and take a break from everyday rush of life they all come without a TV (though you may ask for one upon booking).
So the end result is that whilst the Villa Zoe is authentically Greek in many ways it remains a modern and sophisticated place to stay. The design conscious amongst you will love the style vibe, those looking to get away will love the space and Mediterranean peace Villa Zoe emanates. And those who love the two together have found the perfect place to stay in Crete.
