Here's a quick language lesson. The word “Bonita” means pretty in Portuguese (in the feminine form, by the way). And on a basic level that “pretty” much sums up this Algarve boutique hotel.
It has all the attributes you'd expect for a wonderfully pleasant stay: panoramic views of Lagos and Luz Bays, eight luxurious rooms decorated and done up in a classic style, 10,000 m2 of tranquil gardens, etc, etc.
But what makes it really “beautiful”, so to speak, are not just the bricks and mortar or geographical tangibles, but also the genuine friendliness of Chantelle and Fraser, the two English hosts who know more than a thing or two about the art of hospitality.
Basically, they are the soul of the place and given the super raw materials at hand, the end result is a wonderful boutique accommodation to make the most of and to get to know an Algarve that many may not realise exists.
It seems their goal in life is to make your stay here a perfect one. The best beaches? places to eat? Sports activities? Picnic spots? Just ask them. And by the way, on that last note, they prepare the finest hampers for a picnic.
Of course, you can always just stay in and make the most of the hotel's selection of local wines and beers served in the honesty bar. Perhaps you can enjoy an in-house massage, or unwind by the sizeable heated swimming pool, wander amongst the garden's statues or play a game of giant chess.
This being the Algarve, the sea is an important element of any stay here. The Quinta Bonita celebrates the beauty of one this region's most important natural attributes by naming all of its eight ample rooms after a stunning local beach, which are all a short drive away from the house – hence names such as the “Martinhal” Suite, “Beliche” suite, “Bordeira” suite, “Salema” suite, and so on.
Whatever the name, however, all rooms are individually designed in a classical English tradition and come with top notch Egyptian cotton linen, fluffy duvets and private terraces.
So, enjoy.
Please note: The Quinta Bonita is not appropriate for children under 12 years old.
