Casa Mãe

In the small coastal town of Lagos, in the South of Portugal, known for its romantically remote beaches, the new boutique hotel Casa Mãe is a celebration of good living and Portuguese 'tranquilidade'.
Casa Mãe’s property, with its 16th century walls, its 19th century family estate house, its 5,000 square metre terraced vegetable garden and its restored antique irrigation system, is a place full of heritage, now revived and combined with modern creativity. The brand new building of the property Jogo da Bola is minimalist in the architecture and crafty in the details, with much local context, for example handmade sun dried terracotta flooring, traditional wooden ‘reixas’ on the facade and unique handmade stone ware pieces in the rooms.
The atmosphere is peaceful and playful with white walls, blue sky all year round, palm trees on the vast terrace. The generosity of the volume of the 22 rooms, their large balconies and their hammocks make it the serene place to relax and enjoy the almost endless summer in the very south-west of Europe. With its own farm, its self-published magazine, its curated artisan boutique and its dozens of collaborations with Portuguese artisans and designers, Casa Mãe is much more than a hotel! Its restaurant is called Orta and has a large open kitchen with a bar – the place to eat and observe the chefs putting sunny and fresh flavours on the plates.
Casa Mãe’s ambition is to bring the best products of Portugal on the table, including wines - their selection is all about small producers - unique terroirs and natural wines. Expect boldness and surprises at their Friday’s special dinners, an experience to remember!
Casa Mãe is at the border: between the settled and the wild Algarve, between surfers’ and golfers’ territory, between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. It is a place where you can go for sunbathing nine months a year at the long calm sandy beaches or go for the crazy waves in the West, take a boat to explore the caves across the coast or just hangout and make new friends! Casa Mãe is a place to bury your worries, look at the sunny horizon and smile at life.
