The area in and around the historic village of Grignan is truly lovely and relatively undiscovered. The same goes for Le Clair de la Plume, which is one of our favourite places in the region.
Lavender fields, olive trees, vineyards and truffles abound and right by the foot of the famous Château de Grignan lies Le Clair de la Plume, an ideal romantic getaway if ever there was one and ideally situated to discover this beautiful village (one of the most impressive of the region) and the whole of northern Provence. There are ten rooms in all, each individually styled with carefully chosen antique pieces and overlooking the pretty garden.
Whilst there is no in-house restaurant there are plenty of good places to eat within walking distance. Tea and desserts, however, are served in the garden and this is a pleasure in itself, for another great thing about the Le Clair de la Plume is the way the owners try to make your stay memorable. Given the raw materials they have to work with, it makes the place all that more impressive.
And lastly, here’s a little addendum on Grignan. It was once the home of the Marquise de Sévigne and every year hosts the festival of correspondence as well as numerous concerts and night markets.
