Mandranova Resort
Hotel Type: Bed & Breakfast
Environment: Countryside
Number of Rooms: 14
Style: Traditional
The Mandranova Resort captures the essence of Sicily: a Sicily where, for thousands of years, local traditions, the land, and the sea have lived side by side.
In short, situated in the countryside of Palma di Montechiaro, Mandranova is an elegant rural resort and farm stay, created so as to both preserve and promote the agricultural traditions of this corner of Sicily.
The stores and stables of the ancient farmstead have been used to create today's resort, the interiors of which display a "rustic Mediterranean minimalism", characterized by a combination of contemporary and traditional Sicilian furnishings.
In the 8 bedrooms and four suites located in the old farmhouse, articles of original family furniture contribute to creating a welcoming and authentically Sicilian atmosphere. The Robazza, a typical Sicilian grape press, has been restored and converted in independent villa, designed for those guests in search of additional privacy.
Great plantations of young olives, growing next to century old trees, carpet the hills of the Mandranova farm, and testify to one of Mandranova's lasting passions: olive oil. The farm produces a number of excellent monocultivar extra virgin olive oils, each one created using a single variety of olive. In the Mandranova resort's restaurant guests are treated to the very best of local cuisine, savoring dishes simply bursting with the flavors and aromas of Sicily.
A large garden abundant in exotic African plants and palm trees ensures yet further the peace and quiet reigning over the Mandranova resort. An attractive small swimming pool offers the ideal spot where to relax and enjoy the sunshine.
The sea and beaches of Southern Sicily are just a few minutes away.

Tranquil Oasis amid 12,000 Olive Trees 'more or less'
Just returned from a fabulous holiday to Sicily and Mandranova was one of the highlights.
We stayed just the one night but packed in as much as we could. The grounds and rooms are all very elegant. We had dinner outside under the stars with the other guests and the owners/hosts Silvia and Giuseppe. They seat each group at individual tables and so you can chat to the people next to you or have a quiet dinner with your partner as if at a restaurant.
The food here was amazing, one of the best of Sicily. Topped off with the fabulous Mandranova Olive Oils. We were desperate to bring as much of the oil home as we could but with the next 10 days in Sicily plus the flight back to Australia we had to leave it behind, all but one bottle. We are now home, savouring each mouthful which brings back memories of hot days, cool swims, cool breezes and warm, generous hosts.
The farm is just off a reasonably main road and so if you are not able to switch off the traffic noise you will hear it, although it is not constant. We found though that the second the gates closed behind us we felt we had arrived at a tranquil oasis that blocked out any outside sounds.

"The Leopard" - the area
Mandranova is located in that part of Sicily where the film "Il Gattopardo" (The Leopard) starring with Burt Lancaster, was set.
It is easy to visit the Southern coast of Sicily. In the West the Valley of Temples on the outskirts of Agrigento and the archaeological sites of Seliunte are matched only by the brilliant white beaches of Scale Dei Turchi and Eraclea Minoa. On the Eastern side of the island, Modica and Ragusa stand out with their beautiful Baroque churches and palaces.
In the North, there is unmissable Piazza Armerina with the wonderful mosaiques at Villa del Casale and Caltagirone, a town famous for its pottery. More unconventional itineraries will take you to places such as Palma di Montechiaro, Naro, Caltabellotta and Aragona.
