An august estate house with wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean
One of the many great things about the Azores is that it is so easy to get wonderful panoramic views of the Atlantic - and the country estate of Quinta das Mercês counts extremely highly on this score. Sitting cosily on a little mount, the 360 degree vistas are simply wonderful.
But there’s more here to enjoy, not least the a history which goes back to the 16th century plus a decoration and charming owners that does the proud past of the old stone walls of this estate justice.
Despite the extensive size of the building, there are only 10 rooms on offer so it retains an air of intimacy, whilst overcrowding is pretty unthinkable anywhere, be it the games room, sea water swimming pool or even putting green. It may be old and august, but that doesn’t mean precluding a wide range of facilities, some of which relatively extreme such as underwater fishing and kayaking.
Of course, those looking for sedate activities can enjoy wonderful walks to beautiful Angra do Heroismo, though beware of the steep hills you may encounter.
We had the most wonderful experience staying in this distinguished manor house. Everything was flawless ; the rooms, the decor, the spectacular grounds and surprisingly reasonable rates. The owners make you feel at ease and very welcomed.
I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anybody who appreciates such exquisite environment .
Lovely place to stay on Terceira

The Quinta de Nossa Senhora is a delightful place to stay on Terceira. It took us a while to find the entrance to the property, hidden in a curve, but we got a warm welcome by the owners of this beautiful old manor. The main rooms, furnished with antiques, offer enough space to relaxe for everyone if you don't want to sit outside enjoying the splendid view to the sea or spending your time at the infinity pool.
As the manor has only 12 rooms, the place won't never be overcrowded. Only at breakfast time two additional tables outside would be helpful. Even if the indoor breakfast room is also very charming, it doesn't make fun sitting inside with everybody coming from outside and walking around you to reach the buffet. The breakfast service-lady is very attentive and discreet and you can get fantastic crumbles eggs by order.
Only point of criticism is the size of the bedroom, which is really very small. You can't barely pass between the bed and a drawer for leaving the room into your private small garden. Unfortunately there is not table in the garden, only two plastic chairs. A small table would be very nice if one wants to sit outside in privacy with a glass of wine and a snack.
