It begins with a welcome — quiet, genuine, unfussy. Lena and Roberto are not hosts who perform hospitality; they live it, gently shaping a space that feels both cared for and completely your own.

Villa Verdicchio stands where the road curves into soft hills and the world seems to slow. Once a working winery, it’s now a place of elegant retreat, surrounded by rows of vines and long stretches of light.

There are only four rooms: two suites with private terraces and two double rooms filled with natural light. Interiors are calm and tactile — linen curtains, raw wood, soft clay tones. Each space opens generously to the outdoors, drawing in the breeze and the hush of the countryside.

Breakfast is served in the garden or the inner courtyard: local cheeses, fruit, fresh bread, home-made jams, a daily cake. No buffet, just simple things done well — quietly luxurious in the way that matters.

By day, the options unfold. Walk the fortified villages of the Castelli di Jesi, where narrow lanes echo with silence and the wine tradition runs deep. Visit the Sparapani winery just two kilometres away, linger over lunch at Da Fiorina, then follow the woodland path to the forgotten monastery of the White Friars.

The Frasassi Caves lie close by — a vast underground world of cathedral-like chambers — and the crystalline coves of Monte Conero are just over an hour’s drive. But it’s equally tempting to do nothing at all: soak in the open-air jacuzzi, read under the olive trees, or let the sauna’s warmth blur the line between sky and vine.

Evenings are for lingering — with a glass of Verdicchio and the slow unfurling of light across the hills. There’s a particular kind of quiet here. Not emptiness, but fullness.
