Looking for the perfect mix of tradition, beautiful landscapes and beaches with white sand nearby? The Aldeia da Mata Pequena, just 15 km north of the historic town of Sintra and a 15 minutes drive from the beaches of Ericeira is just that.
This little village has been lovingly restored with great care to preserve its authenticity and now consists of 13 small houses in the traditional Portuguese colours: white, blue and ochre.
Each cottage has a living room, kitchen, bathroom and patio. Cable TV, heating, and cozy furniture are just a few of the amenities. They fit between 2 to 6 persons.
Besides the owners Ana and Diogo, a number of locals still live in the village, eager to keep up their traditional way of living.
Children will be delighted to encounter donkeys, sheep, ducks, chicken, a pig and “Cardoso” the villages’ dog, in the surroundings. It is beautiful place, especially for families, although some very tall persons might have some difficulties as the houses were originally built for locals of a smaller stature.
In the interior you will find cast iron beds with embroidered linen, wooden floors and fireplaces in the kitchen. All seems authentic. Every morning you will find a satchel with a loaf of bread, freshly baked in the wood fired village oven, preserves, tea and coffee. The village also boasts a small restaurant with good local cuisine.
Lisbon is 35km away, Sintra 15km and the beaches of Ericeira a 15 minute drive.
It is a place for utter relaxation, long country walks and a journey into forgotten times.

Charming village and wonderful hosts
Date of stay 12/08/2017
We felt in love with the charming and quiet atmosphere of the village and the lovely surrounding. We had two unique houses next to each other, each with beautiful antique Portuguese furniture. It was like living in ancient times, but having all the comforts you need. The owners, Ana and Diogo, are wonderful hosts and make you feel at home. We really enjoyed the fresh baked bread and other tasty treats they brought us in the morning. Our kids loved to accompany Diogo when he fed the animals. We all felt sad when we had to leave the place and will definitely come back.
Traumhaft

Sehr empfehlenswert!
Unique experience

We enjoyed our stay in the village and found it a very unique experience. The houses have everything you would need for your stay and really make you feel like you have gone back in time! The village is situated in a great area to explore many sights of Portugal. It was always nice to come home to our quiet house. I would recommend a stay here for anyone looking for something different and peaceful.

An Oasis of Peace and Hospitality

If you are looking for a quiet, charming place to stay while exploring the Portuguese capital and its culturally rich and varied surroundings, Aldeie da Mata Pequena could not make for a better choice. With great respect for the local traditions, Ana and Diogo Batalha have lovingly restored the once decaying houses of this little hamlet nestled among vineyards and meadows on a hillside terrace above the Lizandro valley. The couple's hospitality is stunning and heart-warming. Following their excellent suggestions for day trips, hikes, and restaurants will let you experience both the obvious and hidden charms of the area.
Lugar perfecto

Enrico&Patricia
