Porto Covo Beach House

We’re in the Alentejo’s Costa Vicentina, in the seaside village of Porto Covo — a place that was never a grand port nor an aristocratic enclave, but rather a simple, honest settlement where the sea folds gently into the land. The house sits within the village itself, offering easy access to a string of diverse beaches: Praia Grande (just 10 minutes on foot), Buizinhos, Cerca Nova, Praia do Salto … each with its own rhythm, each suiting a different kind of swimmer.

Beach Porto Corvo is a bright, two-storey house. A large open-plan living space combines lounge, dining area and kitchen, opening out through wide glass doors to a generous terrace. In the shade, a long table for eight, a shallow plunge pool just 60 cm deep — not for swimming, but perfect for cooling off, slipping in without effort, stretching out in the afternoon sun. There are sofas to sink into, and in one corner, as it should be, a barbecue.

Upstairs, four suites: three with double beds and en-suite showers; the fourth, ideal for children or teenagers, with two bunk beds (four singles) and a spacious bathtub, just right for rinsing off a salty day. All rooms come with air- condition and double-glazed windows.

The décor is calm and cohesive — pale woods, clean lines, sand-coloured tones and natural linen textiles lend the house a breezy, understated Mediterranean charm.

The details make all the difference: high-quality mattresses, 500-thread-count satin sheets, Scandinavian feather-and-fibre pillows, and soft-touch towels. Free parking is available just behind the house, with direct access.

Porto Covo is a peaceful village set within a protected natural park that runs for more than 100 km along the coast. It’s home to good restaurants and independent shops, with summer tourism that remains low-key and respectful. The area is also well known for its surf — both for those starting out and for seasoned wave-seekers.

Note: There is no extra cleaning service during your stay, and as all bedrooms are located upstairs, the house is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility. The property is in the heart of the village, so you will have neighbours.
