Originally built in the 1500s, the main building of Masseria San Domenico was, once upon a time, a lookout from where the Knights of Malta would keep an eye on the Adriatic sea to forestall an Ottoman invasion.
This will give an idea of the incredible views from this charming luxury hotel. San Domenico was totally restored in the early nineties and opened its doors five years later (1996) as a boutique hotel within a 200-acre farm with olive and fruit trees and 1500 feet away from that stunning sea that washes the Apulian littoral.
This charming luxury hotel welcomes the visitor with a number of great and varied rooms that not only are full of light but also regale us with air conditioning, satellite TV, wireless internet, minibar, king-size beds and other 21st century amenities.
They vary in size, from the 25m2 Superior Room to the huge 130m2 San Domenico Suite – half of which is a terrace with a magnificent view. Buffet-style breakfast takes place in an ample dining room will infuse us with plenty of energy to explore the surroundings for the rest of the day.
Don’t miss the excellent variety of cheeses.
The luxury hotel grounds take in a salt water swimming pool, hedged by decorative shrubs that are truly welcoming on a hot day. After a dip perhaps you can have a wander through the garden with its orchards.
If you feel like going out there are always places of the calibre of Bari, Brindisi and Lecce, that can be visited in a day.
