Vasco Gallego and his wife have a quite famous restaurant in Lisbon, but what they really appreciate is living in Vale de Gaio, surrounded by nature. This small hotel, a former “pousada”, lies right on the shore of the Torrão water reservoir.
Seated on the outside terrace, where various lounge chairs, small tables and four poster beds await the guests, you can enjoy the tranquillity and the amazing sunsets at the end of the day.Although you are in the middle of the Alentejo, there is something cosmopolitan in the atmosphere, helped by the chill out music they play.
The hotel has 14 rooms, most of them with river view. Although being nice and comfortable, they remind you of their more simple origins when the hotel was a “pousada” and lack the charm of the rest of the house. The restaurant will welcome you with a variety of typical Portuguese dishes of high quality and flavour prepared from local produce. Vasco grows a choice of vegetable and herbs that he uses in his dishes himself. His enthusiasm is contagious and makes you feel at home in these very special surroundings.
The Vale do Gaio is the perfect place to enjoy sports and outdoor activities such as rafting, cycling, fishing and hunting or simply lie outside and rest. The Estalagem Vale de Gaio is just 15 minutes by car from Alcácer do Sal and a one hour drive from Lisbon.
Our stay in Vale do Gaio was just incredible! All you ask when you want to escape from city madness, work and just relax. Perfect spot, amazing views and super friendly staff, Vasco is a super host really nice to meet him and enjoy his “creation”. When you want to relax and get away you also want to eat, Vale do Gaio has really good food, porco preto, the shrimp tempura and the ceviche wow. Definitely a place to go back.

Sounds of Silence
