There’s something rather sweet about the Quinta do Mel – literally - as it is not called the “Honey Farm”, for nothing.

This “agroturismo” combines a secluded place to stay with the production of honey and other produce. And here’s another really good bit – all this within 15 minute walking distance to some of the best beaches in the heart of the Algarve. It’s one of the things that make the Quinta do Mel special, so seemingly away from it all, yet Albufeira and Vilamoura can be glimpsed on the horizon.

Its ten bedrooms, two of which are suites with their own veranda, owe more than a passing nod to the Alentejo region in décor and style with its wooden roofs and tiles – and that means peace. But apart from this the other highlight is the tea house offering its in-house produce, amongst which jams, teas and, of course, honey.

So good are they that they can be found on the shelves of the world famous Harrods of London and El Corte Ingles of Spain.

Breakfast at the Quinta is, of course, spectacular given the raw materials available and that should put you in good stead for your fifteen minute walk to “Tomates” beach, one of the most famous of the region.

Nice hotel for a romantic getaway

Hotel is nice, very well located near beautiful beaches and restaurants. Nice breakfast, room decoration is quite old fashioned. Definitely not suitable for families with small children, though.
