Mittendrin Boutique Hotel Berlin

What does the discerning traveller look for when searching for a fine city accommodation? We wager some, or all, of the following come to mind: great location, wonderful hosts, price/value for money, excellent taste in the decor, whatever the style, plus a certain “je ne sais quoi”.
The Mittendrin is one of those charming Berlin hotels that ticks all boxes above (and more) so unsurprisingly many consider it to be one of Berlin’s best boutique bed & breakfasts within its price range.
It is owned and run by the wonderful Sabine Knoll, an actress, who in our opinion may have played many roles as a hostess. She is a natural – kind, approachable and proud of the city she has made her home.
Her infectious personality rubs off on everyone and the truth is, whilst it is very much a boutique B&B in style and decoration, it feels more like staying in a friend’s house, thanks to Sabine.
Regarding the location, there’s a reason why it’s called the Mittendrin. The word means “in the middle” in German and sure enough, the Mittendrin is so situated that whether you are a culture vulture, shopaholic, foodie or simply a curious visitor, everything seems to be at hand and easily reachable by foot. In short, it is in the middle of everything.
And after a day visiting this most interesting of cities, it is good to know that you are coming back to one of four creatively decorated rooms, each one done up in warm colours, stylish furnishings and no small amount of taste - but each also individual.
Their names indicate the type of style they represent, so we have the Romantic (see hotel board just in case you're preparing a honeymoon), the Modern, the Classico and the Mediterrano.
To make it more dynamic, a local artist, Petra Pawlofsky, has turned the Mittendrin into an effective art gallery. Her works can be seen through the hotel and rooms themselves, and like any good art gallery they change over time.
