Iturrienea Ostatua

Charming little hotel bang in the heart of old town Bilbao. This city may not be the most fashionable of Spain’s cities, but it does have the titanium-clad Guggenheim and the Iturriena Ostatua, a lovely little hotel that surely must be one of the best value accommodations in the whole of northern Spain.
It really is very charming and with many of its original features remaining, such as beams and exposed stone work, this friendly hotel is also full of character and intimacy. At the same time it manages to boast remarkably good facilities for what in effect is a price that reflects a 2-star establishment. All credit for this should go to Roberto Atance and Jesus Chueca, two Basque sculptors who took care of the light and original furnishings. And being located right in the heart of the old town it cannot be better placed either. Just step outside and cobble stone streets, tapas bars and local shops abound.
But the intangibles at the Iturriena Ostatua also count for as much. By that we mean the exceedingly friendly staff who do their utmost to help you in any way possible. They know the best places to eat, what to see do and enjoy, so make the most of their knowledge. There may be more luxurious hotels around but it is difficult to beat the Iturriena Ostatua for sheer friendliness, personality and charisma.
