The concept of the Pensão mFavorita is inspired by the Porto lifestyle, the "re-lecture" of "the favourite" myth, joined with the practicality of the contemporary design. The rooms location is offers its guests the possibility to discover the historical side as well as enjoy the underground culture of the city. Confronting nostalgia, nature with modernity, the place is a comfortable mixture of signs that keeps your eyes and your mind alert to the beautiful and discrete attentions that has been designed for the residents.
The iconic name "Favorita" is a reference to the chosen woman, usually personalizing both romantic and political intelligence and influence, that had the favours of the King or emperor and that he secretly encountered. In reference to the Marquise de Pompadour or Mariana Alcoforado, this hotel is the place for special moments, perfect week-ends or relaxing longer stays, while it will propose to the guests to discover cultural references thanks to subtle and historical details placed in unusual ways, from the 'Caldas da Rainha' wall installation in the entrance. This old house becomes a symbol of modern living through the design intervention.
Located in the gallery street of Porto, the hotel is in the heart of the cultural life of the city, and participates to it with the monthly opening night events that occur, and with mounting exhibitions in the public areas of the building. Leisure is also obviously part of the concept with modular ways of living in the hotel. The lounging space is a mixture of old and contemporary furniture, that permits to share a moment or isolate yourself in a corner to read a book or try some Portuguese products displayed on the glass library. All of the rooms of the Favorita have their private bathroom, dressing room and writing table:
-Double/Twin rooms are ideal for a luminous pause between your discovery walks around Porto, the north of Portugal capital.
-Suites are "evolving rooms" considering the needs of its guests, as they can be reserved by one, two, three or four persons. A longer stay is imaginable thanks to the kitchen corner and the large table as the centre-heart of the adjacent room space.
-Sotão is an under-roof room, welcoming maximum three persons, to enjoy a special chilled-out experience in an unconventional space over-viewing the garden.
In the garden, guests can enjoy sunbathing while eating on the terrace of the restaurant. The hotel restaurant is offering various recipes of modern cooking, all with fresh market products, to savour while delighting the Serge Against Bourg drawings, emphasising the walls of the peaceful environment. Besides the classical well know local brands for products, traditionally brewed beers is proposed, also, the wine selection includes some of the best Douro producers.
The hotel is composed of 7 rooms in the house and 5 more rooms in the garden, a restaurant adjacent to the garden and a lounging space. Mixing modern furniture and vintage pieces, Favorita is not one more design hotel, but a house where everybody will find himself warmly welcomed, thanks to special details in the selection of objects and references. The space has been designed to offer great surfaces, as well in terms of public spaces than in the organization of the rooms and the bathrooms. The spirit of this old Portuguese house remains and finds a second life thanks to the contemporary approach that proposes an easy and comfortable lifestyle.
A Favorita is located in Porto, the Portugal capital of the north, internationally recognised for Douro's riverbank, wines and special cookery. In the historical centre, between the Park of Palacio de Crystal -where you will find the Porto wine tasting house- and the Decorative Arts Museum -Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis-. In Rua Miguel Bombarda #267, the city's street where most of the galleries are located and organize all together a common opening week-end, starting every first Friday of the month. Who: Ema Xavier and Filipe Maia, owner Nuno Sottomayor, architect Sam Baron, designer Isabel Abreu, designer.

We enjoyed our stay at Pensao favorita right from the first moments: The very friendly and competent staff helped us to unload our rental car quickly in the narrow and busy Miguel de Bombarda street so that we could return it and then discover Porto unburdened. The room was simple and nice. Breakfast prepared with lovely detail, we could take a rest in the comfort of a garden or a well designed hall. The neighbourhood is quirky, converting into a hub of creativity by young artists. But most important: the women taking care of Pensao were helpful at any time, giving hints for restaurants and visits, helping to get us back to the airport altough there was a taxi strike going. It has been a great pleasure staying with them, so that Pesao Favorita turned out to be our favorite accomodation in Porto.

A real surprise as you walk through the door. The hotel is beautiful with a most unexpected and fantastic garden. Good location, easy access to sights, restaurants and metro. We had a lovely warm welcome , it was a shame we could only stay one night. The owner/ manager was incredibly helpful. We will definitely visit again.

We have a wonderful time at Pensao Favorita, very well located in Porto, very cozy and great service. The rooms were really clean, with good taste in the decoration both the ones at the garden and the one at main building. Very good breakfast also. I strongly recommend this hotel when travelling to Porto.

We spent two nights at this lovely place. We had a big room with an nice view to the beautiful garden. Everyone was nice an welcoming an we got a lot of recommendations what to do in Porto and where to eat. Besides, the breakfast buffet was delicious and we found a few good places for dinner in the neighborhood. We would definitely book this place again, when we come back to Porto :)

Welcomed by host Margarida my stay in Porto started with a most warming, open and delighted feeling .. and ended with the knowledge that I will return.... Upon opending the door into the house, it welcomes you with an individual interior full of great atmosphere. The garden welcomes you with silence and nature located in the middle of the city of Porto. Rooms, breakfast leave nothing to miss - gave me the feeling of being at home. Unfortunately only one night - but will be back for more! Ella

As soon as we were welcomed into this cool, calm and beautifully decorated space we felt at home. Our clean, simple room in the main building had lofty ceilings and a comfortable bed in which we slept very well. The shower was excellent. There was a comfortable lounge and plant filled garden-room with books, records and TV for guests to relax in together with water, port, fruit and biscuits set out on a table. The garden cafe was where the delicious buffet breakfast was served and drinks and snacks were available throughout the day, although with so much available nearby we ate out. The staff spoke English and were very friendly and helpful. We loved the atmosphere and the traditional Portugese style mixed with eclectic mid-century furniture and work by local artists. The central location in was quiet and in easy reach of the old town with individual shops, galleries and cafes minutes away. It was excellent value for money and we would recommend it highly, just don't expect a TV and mini-bar in your room, it's not that sort of place.
