We don’t know where to start with the Conde de la Corte. Do we start with the beautiful hotel itself? Perhaps the wonderful town of Zafra where it is located? What about the history of both?

Let’s crack on with the general details and get down to specifics later. To put it simply, Zafra is stunning. It’s no coincidence that it is known as “little Seville”, for it has all of its big sister’s charm and beauty without most of the drawbacks. We’ll let you discover the town for yourself, but just mention a few nuggets for now – the Plaza Grande, Plaza Chica, the 15th Century Alcazar, the “Belén” Hermitage, the “Jerez Arch” and so on and so on. Also, for a small town it also boasts some of the best restaurants you can think of, so it’s not only the sense of sight that gets a good workout but also the sense of smell, as all those wonderful aromas glide through the air.

Now, the wonderful Conde de la Corte fits in perfectly within this stunning scenario, its terracotta facade glowing wonderfully in right in the centre. Built in 1840, the decor very much reflects its bullfighting legacy, as the family. Room names are named after breeds of cattle, for example, but there’s also an unmistakable English influence in the carpeting and lush fabrics used throughout.

But of course, its heart is very much Spanish and the inner courtyard that links up the various areas of the Conde la Corte is a beautiful case in point. In short, wonderful hotel, wonderful town, wonderful atmosphere.

This is s delightful house with private garden conveniently situated in the centre of the historic town and within a few minutes walking to all the bars and restaurants, and Plaza Grande. Secure garage parking is also offered as an extra which is a must if you have a decent car given street parking in the centre of Zafra risks getting your car dented given there’s limited spaces in v narrow streets. The breakfast which is keenly priced is continental and mostly shop bought. Despite what we were told by Secret Places, this hotel isn’t entirely comfortable with pets. On arrival we were taken to the top floor of the house, basically attic, where some basic but comfortable rooms are set aside for clients with dogs. We were told that dogs weren’t allowed in any of the common areas... Having just driven three days through France and Spain with our dog to get here, it was somewhat disappointing to then be told our dog would have to stay in the room...and if we had known this we would not have booked this hotel because the purpose of bringing our dog was to include her in our holiday. In the event and after suggesting would have to leave the following morning, we were allowed to have our dog alongside us at the pool providing she was secured on her lead - we were told this was exceptionally agreed because there hotel was basically empty... This is a lovely hotel BUT I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with a dog because of the restrictions for pets which made us feel uncompfortable at the start of out holiday.
