What a stunning entrace!
Just getting there is an experience in itself for the Ksar Massa lies 35 miles south of Agadir in an exceptionally beautiful place. We are face to face with a wild and pristine Atlantic and inside the Souss Massa National Park (a renowned bird sanctuary) close to the hamlet of Sidi Rbat.
The road that takes us there is not particularly comfortable – which is no surprise in a national park – but cars rented at the airport (Agadir - 45 minutes away) are well prepared for this sort of eventuality. To mitigate this fact, the 5-mile ride by an ocean road and an interminable beach as we get nearer and nearer, is of a dream like quality.
The 16 bedrooms – all with a view of the sea – seem plucked from a Scheherazade tale: ample, dazzlingly decorated, with a small living room and its own terrace. The main building boasts a large dining room where superb Moroccan meals are served – with an emphasis on fish and vegetables that, according to dieticians, is the sure way to live to a hundred. We can have breakfast in the terrace, weather permitting. In that case we may care to follow it by a dip in the salt water swimming pool in the garden.
But the main attraction of our sojourn here is hiring a guide and doing some exceptional bird watching in the park – greater flamingo, blue tit, crane, marbled teal and bald ibis – those and many more make Souss Massa their home part of the year.
