History buffs will love staying at The Churchill Hotel. The house is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion (built around 1827). In 1822 it was sold to Her Majesty's Principal Secretary for the War Department and remained under government ownership for over a century. During this time, in 1898, the Prince of Wales (His Majesty King Edward VII) stayed overnight in, what is now, the Prince of Wales suite. The Churchill Hotel opened in 1985 and has undergone many refurbishments since then to make sure that all of the amenities are up to date, the most recent one in 2018).

The hotel, as you can probably tell by the name, pays homage to former British prime minister, Winston Churchill. You will find pictures depicting Churchill and bulldogs all around the hotel. To honour Churchill's work during World War II, some rooms have wallpaper depicting Spitfire plans and one room is made to feel like a bunker (please be aware that this room doesn't have a window - to make the experience as authentic as possible). Each room contains different decor and amenities but you will find each to be special, some containing four poster beds and roll top baths.
