La Casa Grande

Located by a tiny street in the historic quarter of one of the beautiful “White Villages” - Arcos de la Frontera - the “Big House”, to give it it’s English name, is without doubt a gem of a place.
Thanks must go to Elena for graciously opening up her 18th century private home (one of the most important aristocratic houses in Arcos) into such an exquisite accommodation for discerning travellers. The feeling is definitely one of intimacy. However, the view alone would make a visit worthwhile, as how many places can claim to be sandwiched between a beautiful cathedral and fine church, with the old quarters of Arcos and the countryside of Andalusia as a backdrop?
The upper terrace, perched as it is over what at first sight seems a precarious cliff, and where a refreshing welcome drink is served, is a privileged location to take this magnificent sight in. The interior is no less impressive. Ceilings with wooden beams painted in several colours, such as greens and whites, blues and reds, as well as terra cotta floors and tiles, testify to the imagination and attention to detail put into the decoration.
Some other fine touches include a recondite with a piano, greenhouse and stand full of vinyl records and CDs and the varied library. Rooms carry on this vein as guests are pampered with bright, quirky and colourful bedrooms. In short, a cosy, well thought out and imaginative place to spend a romantic vacation.
