A secret world of peace and tranquillity in the heart of sherry country.
You are now in sherry country and hidden amongst the thick arboreal garden of palms, cypresses, myrtle and bay, just outside Jerez, lies a secret world, the world of Alcántara. This delightful country house takes in nine extremely comfortable rooms within the impressive large grounds and quiet gardens. Living quarters are decorated subtly in pale earth colours which reflect the hills of the huge estate behind the house.
The house has many little mementoes that remind us this is the private estate of the Gonzalez family, including photos, an antique chest of drawers, a painting or embroidery. Upstairs, the rooms have steeply beamed roofs, and all the bathrooms in the house have delicately veined white marble surrounds painted wooden panelled dados, and large shower roses (with decent water pressure behind them!) During the heat of the summer day, Alcántara remains cool and refreshing, and the shady garden becomes an oasis with its naturally coloured, and peaceful, swimming pool.
As the sun sinks in the sky, take a walk up through the vineyards and down to the lake, where ducks and other waterfowl take shelter. It’s a good place to take a picnic and spend the afternoon painting. Alcantara today is still a place of quiet refuge. Being located between Jerez and Arcos it also affords the perfect stopping-off place for those who are touring the "pueblos blancos", the famous white villages of Andalusia, visiting the great sherry bodegas (cellars), or merely wanting to play a game of golf on the course at Montecastillo which lies close by.
Casa Viña de Alcântara is also only 10 minutes from Jerez airport.

Lovely country house, very quiet and with excellent service. Dinner was lovely on all the nights we stayed, good simple menu well prepared and served. Delightful garden to walk in. Alex our host was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

Mike and I spent 2 glorious nights in this stunning villa on a working vineyard just outside Jerez de la Frontera. The villa was originally a hunting lodge of this same family. It has been sympatheticly renovated and converted into a beautiful small hotel. From the moment we arrived, welcomed by the butler, we were treated to an exceptional experience of understated attention and service. The ancient gardens surrounding the villa are a haven to many beautiful singing birds and to lounge around the pool after a swim in this setting was glorious. Breakfast and dinner could be taken in the walled courtyard on iron tables under white linen with the overhanging orange trees laden with fruit & heady with perfume. Candlelit dinner in the beautiful dining & sitting rooms was also a special affair served by the happy and attentive butlers Albero and Jorge. A final touch of appetitif from the be renowned winery in front of a fire if the weather permits is what memories are made of. A wonderful place and so pleased we found it to add to a memorable Andalucian journey.

The hotel is slightly dated but very well maintained and clean, cosy, very friendly staff and nice, spacious room with an excellent bed. Dinner was good but pricey, dessert rather diappointing. Breakfast was fine. Overall a very nice stay.
